New Music: Omarion and Usher!

+ March 12, 2007

omarionusher.jpg

Omarion’s “Ice Box” is already doing well on the charts but I’m sure it’s going to get a major boost. On last week’s TRL Omarion said that he had a remix coming but he couldn’t say who he did it with. Well now you can hear it for yourself. The duet partner is none other than USHER!

I loved the song before but I love it even more now! This pairing is really fitting since they happen to be some of the best Michael Jackson impersonators around. I’ve only got the radio rip version right now but I’ll get you the high quality version as soon as I get my paws on it. Enjoy Love Muffins!

Joss Stone: Album Review

+ March 9, 2007

introducing_joss_stone_album_cover.jpg

Joss Stone’s third album, Introducing Joss Stone, hits stores on March 12th and it’s absolutely brilliant. The 19-year old British soul singer finally grows into her mature sound and delivers a performance that is young, fresh, and new but doesn’t abandon its soul roots. She makes use of neo-soul street cred with cameos from heavy-hitters Lauryn Hill and Common as well as production from Raphael Saadiq. LOVE IT!

On her debut album, The Soul Sessions, few could believe that the person who was effortlessly belting out those ballads was 16-years old, much less a White girl. That debut was nothing short of amazing, but you always got the sense that she would be able to do so much more once she was able to develop a sound was truly her own. This album displays her growth as a woman and as an artist. I must say this is a step in the right direction.

Here’s her lead single “Tell Me ‘Bout It”

Cover Wars!

+ March 5, 2007

This weekend I started thinking about the tricky art of covering a song. It’s a hard thing to do well. The new version of the song has to be as good or better than the original and it has to bring something new to the table! On top of all that pressure, that cover song will always be compared, usually with disdain, to the original. Here’s a list of some notable COVER SONGS THAT CROSS GENRES! Some are obscure and some are more well-known! Just click and listen. Let me know your thoughts?

Under the Radar: Beauties and the Beats

+ March 4, 2007

Megan Rochell is a Black and Puerto Rican Brooklyn bombshell with major potential. As for most young inner-city stars-to-be with a dream and a talent…she started out shutting down the stage of the Apollo. She met Nathan Morris of Boys II Men when she moved to Philly and he led her to her big break - a meeting with L.A. Reid. Her voice is alluring, strong and provocative. She is a prime example of hitting R&B at the heart with songs that are real, beats that are strong yet not overpowering and a style all her own. Her debut album You, Me, and the Radio has yet to be released. Listen for more from this :UNDER THE RADAR: artist.

Rihanna and Nicole Scherzinger: New Song

+ February 27, 2007

If didn’t like the duet between two A-listers like Beyonce and Shakira, then you’re gonna hate this combo of B-listers. Rihanna and Nicole Scherzinger came together to record a song for a Secret Deodorant ad. They thought the song was so good that they released it today. Personally I love both Rihanna and Nicole but the song is nothing short of horrible. In my humble opinion, this song should have stayed a secret and I’m glad it’s not a real single! But don’t just trust me, listen for yourself:
