Making the transition from one genre of music to another is never an easy task for any artist. Some of Hip-Hop’s greats have found themselves changing their style to keep up with the times in order to appeal to consumers.
Rapper D.O.E., formerly known as John DOE, is renowned on the underground scene in New York City and now has taken his act to primetime with super producer Timbaland. His introduction to fame came just last year in 2007 after writing and rapping the most memorable lyrics on Timbaland’s Top 20 single “The Way I Are,” featuring the remarkably talented songwriter Keri Hilson. Having surrounded himself around some of Hip-Hop and Pop royalty, D.O.E. joined Timbaland and the rest of the superstar Mosley Music Crew on tour with acts like Justin Timberlake and Nelly Furtado. D.O.E. believes, “Being on tour with so many talented and successful artists made me think about the type of music I want to make and where I want my career to go. Being from the bottom and going to the top is never an easy task but I am living it. I’m ready to show the rest of the world what I can do with my debut album.”
Finally taking the time to work on his studio release on Interscope Records, D.O.E. with the blessing of Timbaland, has decided to officially retire the name John DOE. and rightly introduce the world to D.O.E. Along with the name change ensues a new sound and style of music. While still respecting his Hip-Hop roots, D.O.E made the choice to create a positive sound that all could embrace. D.O.E. reveals, “Being in the studio with Timbaland, who has worked with everyone from Britney Spears to Madonna, makes you want to think out the box and become more creative. The tracks might be Pop but my message is still the same, just delivered in a different way. I am making those records that Z100 will play and Hot 97 will respect. I have fans oversees now and I want to appeal to everyone and not just New York City’s underground.”
To cater to the streets one last time, Timbaland and D.O.E. linked together to produce a FREE downloadable album titled “The Fall of John Doe and The Rise of D.O.E.” The collaborative production narrates D.O.E.’s struggle, perseverance, and reflection of his music career while maintaining his compelling, sincere, and entertaining thoughts and sounds. The production also serves as the prelude to D.O.E.’s next musical phase that emulates the sounds of “The Way I Are” through the single named “Coming Down.”
This album can be heard and downloaded here. Log on and listen to Hip-Hop’s future as D.O.E. begins on his journey to go from the bottom to the top.

This sound like the song Timba did before with Timberlake, same format. I hope they don’t keep her stuck with these kinds of beats.
