New Movie Review: The Family That Preys
September 17, 2008
I saw The Family That Preys and let me tell you that this movie was great! Sanaa Lathan’s character made me want to take off my shoes and soak my fists in Vaseline - she got on my nerves big time! Take me higher lord! If you loved all of Tyler Perry’s plays and movies, then this movie will not disappoint you. Full of drama, enough drama to go around. To summarize the movie, Sanaa Lathan’s character begins having an affair with her boss after she gets married and takes on the new job. You already know people will be hurt in the process with fists flying around. If you haven’t seen the movie, take some time out of your schedule and get to it!

I LOVED this movie. It was so different than the story line and plots that we are use to. Single mom, single dad, broken marriage, Madea….. Though I love them all this was great on so many levels. Get that money TP

B.Scott that Heffer was way out of control. She got her just desserts in the end though. My question is why was Tyler Perry looking like a care bear????????? I’m just saying.

I like the movie but there were so many holes that TP could have filled. And the movie was kind of predictable.
-Why didn’t we see the affair and how it started?
-Why didn’t we see where their marriage went wrong and she decided to cheat? And who initiated the affair?
-It was never really explained why Sanaa was such a B to everyone in the whole movie? Don’t give me the daddy wasn’t there excuse.
-How come there wasn’t a scene where Sanaa apologized to her mom that she was right?
-Why didn’t Taraji’s character slap Sanaa instead of the Husband? And didn’t she say, “I’m gonna get to the bottom of this” and then she never did??
-Why didn’t we see the investigator that the wife hired and him spying on them? That would have been good to see.
-We could have done without some of the road trip scenes.
-Robin Givens was a good character, we should have seen more of her.
-And Mr. Cartwright really didn’t have any punishment in the end. It was kind of whatever, he got fired, okay then what else happened because he still drove away in a porsche???
-I knew the boy was bi-racial right when he stepped on the scene. I told my friend immediately, that’s not his baby.
-And you already knew eventually the wife was gonna turn on her husband as soon as she found out about the affair.
I’m sorry I just had a lot of confusion after I left the theatre. The movie was good but it could have been soooo much better.

I am going to have to agree with Mia on this one. The movie was ok. But there were a lot parts that could have been better explained or just left out (fluff).
I love tyler. But I think his last movie was better (why did I get married?).
It tackled some serious issues but still have plenty of comical relief to balance it out.
This movie just went from sad to sadder for me.
Sanna’s character deserved what she got, but for a character who was “smart” enough to hide that money from her husband, why wouldn’t she be “smart” enough to get that child support from one of the richest men in town so that her child had a decent place to live? I don’t care if his wife finally gained control of his wallet(which got his attention), the courts are good for doing that better than most. They would have gotten her child support.
Just some things that left me saying “err?” *tilts head*
Had some great points that were adressed (living life to the fullest), but he kinda hit and missed on some of them for me.
I give it a 7 out of 10 personally…and I’m being generous.
But I’m glad everyone else enjoyed it!

I totally agree with Mia and LBC Love ’s post….the movie did have holes…but I was just BLOWN away by Sanaa…I kind of missed all the holes in the plot…but Sanaa Sanaa Sanaa!! Her character was a MESS….with a degree and all from Harvad top of her class, etc etc , she managed to mess up her LIFE that bad…how sad. But I agree it would have been very nice to see where her issues came from…to see the development of the affair and why she was so vulnerable like that.
Sanaa was a Bitch with a capital B….and that slap LOL That slap…omg!!!
This is definately a movie that peeps should check out…most are right that the drama really begins and ends in the last 20 minutes of the movie which means there could have been a BETTER story development for the characters. But it was great nonetheless.
Good Job Tyler Perry!!
