Solange Sets Things Straight!

August 28, 2008

Update: Footage from Solange’s interview on The Early Show today just added - check out what Beyonce and Tina Knowles had to say.

Check out Solange setting “things straight” in regards to what recently went down right before a recent Fox interview in which she got upset about what was said behind the scenes about her “brother-in-law” Jay-Z. Love muffins I want to hear your take on this. Should Solange have said what she said before the start of the interview (note: she provided the first official Knowles family confirmation that Jay-Z and Beyonce are in fact married) or should she have let it go?

Ok, so I live in Las Vegas. I watch that fox 5 news cast every morning. I particularly made it a point to watch that morning, because B.Scott has been posting Solange’s music and I was feeling it. Monica Jackson comes on and does her intro and Solange acts a dam fool. It was completely unnecessary considering that she is Beyonce’s little sister and she on her 13th minute of fame of her 15… She should’ve either apologized or left it alone. Monica Jackson (the news anchor) spoke on it this morning because she got so many emails/phone calls and she still tried to be very diplomatic about dam well knowing that Solange acted like a dam idiot. So there goes one less record that I was planning to buy….

2nd!!! love you solange…it’s good to see that you have control of you’re spirit unlike many people who follow everyone else…i’m a fan now.

  3. KelliQuik on August 28, 2008 at 12:43 pm #

Okay, now it makes more sense. I still think she could have handled it better, but I think she’ll learn as she grows. No love lost, still with Solange! I didn’t notice that the clip was from fox. They are so one-sided, it’s pitiful. They are well-known not to be fair to blacks, calling our next first lady a baby mama! So Ms. Solo, I ain’t mad at cha!

  4. KelliQuik on August 28, 2008 at 12:45 pm #

She’ so pretty! Has anyone else ever noticed how no one really speaks about how pretty she is? She stunning!

  5. takyra on August 28, 2008 at 12:51 pm #

I agree with her. I definitely stand by her regardless. She was in no way disrespectful towards the anchor and Solange handled it in a lady-like manner. News anchos are bulldogs and they don’t care what they say sometimes. Someone had to put them in their place and Im glad it was my girl Solo! And anywho…Everybody already knew Beyonce and Jay were married. It was all up in people magazine and everything. Yall are late! That is nothing new.

  6. Misz KiKi on August 28, 2008 at 12:52 pm #

I still say its bullshit! but hey, if she was feelign a certain way towards what was being said why would she get on the reporter and not the person who said the shit!? she’s still wrong. i’m sorry but that’s how i feel… the reporter deserves and apology.

  7. Luci Fer on August 28, 2008 at 1:02 pm #

If Solange wants her star to shine she better learn better public relations-her recent “look at me I’m different” tactics are costing her-more than she can realize because I won’t buy her CD now…tell me why she wants to sing about smoking weed, drinking and having sex…Your not the only SOLO just the only one stupid enough to make a song about it-in which case is evident your silly lil young azz was high then!

  8. jscorpths on August 28, 2008 at 1:19 pm #

Yea, there was a misunderstanding between the on-air/off-air situation and i understand her actions. And i understand her apology.
So why would you all decide to not buy her record just because of something so small as this? Her talent isn’t going to change. You were going to buy the album in the first place for a reason. And just b/c of this, none of that matters anymore? She stood up for herself and her family. You would’ve done the same thing is someone said something disrespectful about your blood line.

  9. Maverick69 on August 28, 2008 at 1:24 pm #

It’s simply stupid not to purchase a CD or write someone off because you don’t agree with what they did or said. If that was the case, no one would like each other. She was defending herself over something that did air regardless of who said it and when. That’s the topic here people. And I think she was right on.

  10. ROBBIE on August 28, 2008 at 1:32 pm #

NEWSFLASH - SOLANGE - 1ST DAY Sales - Your not even in the top 10. THE GAME was #1.

  11. Katamara Frasier on August 28, 2008 at 1:35 pm #

She should have handled it better.

  12. trina b on August 28, 2008 at 1:40 pm #

No I think Solange handled it beautifully. I freakin love this girl for who she is and staying true to that. I luv what she’s doing for music. She is very talented and intelligent which really surprises me in that here you have two sisters both born of the same woman and one seems to be a tripple threat where as the other one heavily talented is lacking in some vital ways. I won’t mention any names but I know the Solange is talented, beautiful, and smart, so everyone else do the math!

  13. Abhor_ on August 28, 2008 at 1:45 pm #

Of course it makes sense, people who actually watched the video before jumping on her would’ve heard a man say “No, Solange that didnt make it on the air” or something to that extent. That was what she was responding to not what the woman said. And to the person commenting on her singing about smoking and sex. She is a grown ass woman and not everyone shares the same views as you about weed or other things. Please lets not act like singing about sex is new, OLD SCHOOL music talked about sex a lot (The Isley Brothers- In between the sheets) but it has always been done tastefully..which i think she does as well..

  14. ROBBIE on August 28, 2008 at 1:47 pm #

Her CD REVIEW IN ROLLING STONE!

Solange Knowles has made it clear that she doesn’t want to be compared to her sister Beyonce, which is only fair: there’s no comparison. Big sis has several attributes that Solange lacks, including charisma, a distinct musical personality, and an almighty gale-force singing voice. But you’ve got to give the kid points for trying. She kicks off her second solo release with “God Given Name,” a declaration of independence: “I’m not her and never will be…/Let my starlight shine on its own.” Her starlight, in this case, has a woozy lava lamp glow: SoL-AngeL and the Hadley St. Dreams is awash in the sounds of early Seventies soul and cocktail funk, with retro-flavored tracks from fancy producers like Mark Ronson and Raphael Saadiq, Supremes-sampling Motown updates (the hit “I Decided, Pt. 1,” with a beat by the Neptunes), and the inevitable Marvin Gaye tribute (”Ode to Marvin”). But Solange simply doesn’t have the pipes to pull off her songs, and her attempts at “mystical” psychedelic-soul (the six-minute-plus opus “Cosmic Journey”) are embarrassing. You’re not Beyonce, honey—and you ain’t Erykah Badu, neither.

    JODY ROSEN

  15. Jai on August 28, 2008 at 2:16 pm #

Solange should realize being asked about Beyonce is part of the territory. When Janet first came out, she was asked about her famous siblings, when Ashley Simpson came out it was the same. Until her music becomes very well known by the masses, she may want to eat an entire humble pie. One thing I can say about Beyonce is that she does know when to shut the hell up!!!

  16. Abhor_ on August 28, 2008 at 2:21 pm #

^ Did you not watch the video?! She clearly states (obviously not so clear) that they were asking her about Jay-Z’s club closing and thats what pissed her off. Why would you bring something negative up that is totally irrelevant to the reason she was there. She was there to promote her new album NOT to talk about JAYZ’s club closing..

  17. Rob on August 28, 2008 at 2:43 pm #

Hits daily double.com is a chart building website. Projected sales are expected to be verylow for this album. It will debut very low next week. Can’t be from a lack of trying she’s promoting all over.

  18. Glennisha Morgan on August 28, 2008 at 2:58 pm #

Thanks for posting this! I saw the clip and I was like damn we don’t even know what the comment was but, glad u posted this. I love Solo she will not hold you up lol I agree also, Journalism fucking sucks right now! As a journalism student I am so disappointed

  19. Melissa on August 28, 2008 at 3:09 pm #

I believe that she ws right in saying how she felt. That interview was about her. That had nothing to do with her sister and her husband. Every little chance the media gets they want to dwell on BEYONCE AND JAY-Z. And this has nothing to do with her album sales. You either like her from the beginning or you didn’t. That does not make sense: “oh I’m not gonna buy her cd now because she was acting a damn fool” please. You weren’t gonna buy it in the first place. Let her be.

  20. Tiffany on August 28, 2008 at 3:46 pm #

First off the video with Bey and there Mom was very nice and to me Solange always came off as the type that would get REAL IGNANT when you said anything about her family and grant it she could have handled it better but I think she got into protective mode.

  21. soufian on August 28, 2008 at 3:54 pm #

it’s her personality, should she change who she is so she can sell records? I don’t think so .. if it was out here in holland i would defenitly have bought it

  22. Nikki on August 28, 2008 at 3:56 pm #

I’m with Solange on this one.

  23. Ace on August 28, 2008 at 3:57 pm #

I can’t say I agree with most of you about her attitude. I actually understood exactly what happened when it happened. You tell me this, if you’re doing an interview and you hear one of the producers tell your interviewer to bring up something that 1. has nothing to do with why you’re there, and 2. is totally rude and 3. Should be addressed to the person whom they REALLY want the answer from. Would you react different? I wouldn’t. She felt insulted and I can feel her. She was their to promote her album, and if they asked something silly like “How’s Jay and Bey” she wouldve giggled and probably gave a politically correct answer, but if they ask “Whats going on with Jays club closing huh, huh, huh?” I’da let them have one too.

This reminds me of when Janet and Tyler Perry were on a FOX station (what is it with FOX?) and the anchor wanted to keep bangering JJ about that whole Super Bowl incident and Tyler let his ass have it! So Solonge, u just earned my $9.99 girl…. and u’ve gotta friend in me

  24. Youngin19 on August 28, 2008 at 4:02 pm #

YES BEY WAS quiet n didnt scream 4 attention cauz, shes FAB, Solonge has to reach tho…but imma still buy her album

  25. Margo on August 28, 2008 at 4:18 pm #

okay we get it…she was offended and annoyed but as a professional in showbiz…you need to learn how to handle yourself better whether you are on air or not.

  26. April on August 28, 2008 at 5:06 pm #

I see why your name is youngin19 because you are obviously stupid. Your perfect Bey wasn’t always as quiet and polished as she pretends to be today. Do I have to remind you about how her dumbass was all slick talking and eye rolling back in the destiny’s child breakup days. Doing interviews calling Toya tone deaf and telling Kelly not to speak of old members. Go youtube it.

  27. JayStar on August 28, 2008 at 5:29 pm #

Anywho she told kelly not to speak of old members because it was part of their agreement NONE OF THEM could speak of either meber [for an extended time period] **and you don’t have to be rude to make a point it shows ignorance!**

But anyway…Beyonce and Solange are two totally different people! Different traits/personalities/and perceptions. But both are taleted artist!

  30. Souther Queen Dee on August 28, 2008 at 5:59 pm #

And there you have it ladies and gents! Mathew wasn’t going to let ya’ll think she was wrong. He made DAMN SURE she cleared that isht up. And I believe her because FOX/TMZ are famous for doing BS like that. Furthermore, they tried to play her CLAIMING some “insider” from the Knowles camp (which you already know is false because the Knowles clan’s PR people/Dadager are the ones who speak for them) was “apologetic” and that Solange “had no media training”. They get a huge BITCH PLEASE for that one! Mathew trained that ass well to be “The different one”.

  31. Southern Queen Dee on August 28, 2008 at 6:00 pm #

Name should say SOUTHERN Queen Dee…LOL!

  32. mrsFAB on August 28, 2008 at 6:20 pm #

A dash of couth could have been used in this recipe.

  33. mcgee29 on August 28, 2008 at 7:51 pm #

I knew that their was more to the story. Solange is her own woman, and like i said yesterday. She could have held it better, but how many time have u or would u snap on someone trying to play not only u but ur family by trying to put their business on blast for their own profit or pleasure. I know that i would. This is the same way that they did to try and play Janet Jackson and Tyler Perry and Jesse Jackson.
As for beyonce haters : she is a professional, and beyonce herself said that even said that is not perfect.

  34. selena on August 28, 2008 at 7:59 pm #

her album is crack….it been on repeat for the past two days.lol at the person that said she is not going to buy her album just because of her fox interview, your and idiot.

  35. azures on August 28, 2008 at 9:02 pm #

just goes to show who are true dedicated fans. i think its actually kinda idiotic for someone to refuse to buy an album they “socalled ” planned on buying but changed their mind due to something they don’t agree with. they’e the ones missing out. cause this album is good. she is solo. she ain’t trying to be no damn ERYKAH BADU or BEYONCE. no one can sing her music but her. so its obvious that she has the vocal ability to pull off her own songs. shes these haters need to get over themselves quickly. i hope she laugh at all of the haters from the top. cause shes heading up there as Sol angel.

  36. Meehsuee on August 28, 2008 at 9:13 pm #

is it Meeh, or was Solange doing the Paw Paw at first in her dance moves?

  37. Nikki on August 28, 2008 at 9:46 pm #

I just notice below the video in the description they had “Beyonce’s Sister: Solange” see that’s why I’m talking about. Why must they put Beyonce’s name in to confirm Solange’s legitimacy. Why Solange can’t she do it herself. How about “Singer songwriter: Solange” y’all feel me that’s what that whole outburst from Solange was about. She don’t need bigger names to get her name out their. She wants to do it herself.

  38. Catalina on August 28, 2008 at 9:50 pm #

The one thing that bothers me is that Solange doesn’t know the origins of her own name. “Soleil” is French for “sun”. “Sol” on its own is Latin. At least she got the “angel” part right.

    Ok, I’m done being a geek. :)

  39. Imani on August 28, 2008 at 10:01 pm #

yall are seriously overreacting if ur not going to buy her album jus becuz of this and i know if anyone else was put in this situation they would have done the same thing! but its different bcuz solange sed it! if someone talks about ppl that u care about or if you feel that you’ve jus been disrespected then your going to say something about it
oh btw the album is flyy as hell ya kno i picked up my copy

  40. TJ on August 28, 2008 at 10:16 pm #

Alright, I hated that interview (middle). It was like an interview about Beyonce but included “and your sister” at the end of every question. I have to give it up, Beyonce did make it all about Solange, imo. I didn’t peep that yesterday’s interview was by Fox, I should’ve known. They are always up to something negative. I rep SolangeL!

  41. janet on August 28, 2008 at 10:46 pm #

um hello i wasn’t going to buy that album ANYWAY but i like it why buy it when i already downloaded it? damn

  42. imprevisible on August 28, 2008 at 11:13 pm #

I feel she could have handled it better but in the same respect she was right to stick up for herself and what she believes in. I respect her more for that.

    TEAM SOLO.

It’s like a single mother meeting a single man. YOUR GUARD STAYS UP…It’s sad it’s this way but it is. She already knows peoples motive. so she stays ON guard

Protect yourself and the family Solo. F’um all!!

  44. browngirl411 on August 28, 2008 at 11:27 pm #

Well she fell right into the trap that FOX set. She needs to get over people asking about her family, she has to pay her dues… She would never even have been signed if her SIS weren’t Bey… She can’t sing… She’s WACK, her fasion sense is WACK, I would never buy her CD. I rather spend my time and money on someone with talent.

WHETHER IT WAS LIVE OR NOT THEY SHOULD HAVE NOT TRIED TO BE SNEAKY!!!….MEDIA PERSONNEL ALWAYS TRY TO CATCH PEOPLE OFF GUARD JUST FOR SHOOK VALUE……HER RESPONSE IS HER RESPONSE……WHY DOES SHE HAVE TO BE CALLED A BITCH FOR IT????….IF YOU ASK ME THE GUY IN THE CONTROL BOOTH IS A BITCH FOR TRYING TO BE SNEAKY WHETHER IT WAS LIVE OR NOT

I learned that fox is a very biased and silly television production. im surprised no one else realized this! Haven’t you heard from Nas album “Sly Fox”?!! he pointed out good points about that racist and biased silly news production called Fox. I wont blame the news anchor but Solange was not rude to her, she was just clarifying something. At first I thought she was rude, but come to think about it Fox is sneaky when they handle things!
