Easy Cooking: French Toast

June 30, 2008

French Toast June 30, 2008Last week I featured breakfast for the first time since I started this segment and I’m just stuck on it. This week it is french toast and this super duper yummy meal is very easy to make. I like it because there is so much you can do to it to make it better. This recipe gives you syrup to put on it, but if maple doesn’t tickle your fancy just make your own easy syrup. It’s yours so have fun and go for it. Only you know what you really like and how you want it. Find the recipe and alternatives after the jump -

Ingredients:

* 4 eggs
* 1 teaspoon sugar, optional
* 1 teaspoon salt
* 1 cup milk
* 10 to 12 slices white bread
* butter
* maple syrup or other syrup

Preparation:
Break eggs into a wide, shallow bowl or pie plate; beat lightly with a fork. Stir in sugar, salt, and milk.

Over medium-low heat, heat griddle or skillet coated with a thin layer of butter or margarine.

Place the bread slices, one at a time, into the bowl or plate, letting slices soak up egg mixture for a few seconds, then carefully turn to coat the other side. Soak/coat only as many slices as you will be cooking at one time.

Transfer bread slices to griddle or skillet, heating slowly until bottom is golden brown. Turn and brown the other side. Serve French toast hot with butter and syrup. Recipe for French toast serves 4.

Alternative syrup:
Take strawberries in a bowl and add sugar and let it sit for about 10-15 minutes.

Caramelize pecans with butter and brown sugar and over medium heat until the butter and brown sugar is not longer visible and the pecans have a slightly glossy look.

Add powdered sugar and then add your syrup.

Add a little whipped topping with the strawberry syrup, and add the pecans if you like.
