Quote Of The Day: Ralph Nader
June 26, 2008
“There’s only one thing different about Barack Obama when it comes to being a Democratic presidential candidate. He’s half African-American,” Nader said. “Whether that will make any difference, I don’t know. I haven’t heard him have a strong crackdown on economic exploitation in the ghettos. Payday loans, predatory lending, asbestos, lead. What’s keeping him from doing that? Is it because he wants to talk white? He doesn’t want to appear like Jesse Jackson? We’ll see all that play out in the next few months and if he gets elected afterwards.”
Love muffins, I am not sure what presidential candidate Ralph Nader must have been thinking when he said that. I must admit, I couldn’t help but laugh. But come on, how does someone talk “white”?

Ralph sucks sausage all day every day. The quintessential hater hiding behind the title of Sociopolitical critic. He couldn’t get the Republican or Democratic seat so he is the Independent loser; he is so irrelevant. As the Brits say, “piss off!!”.

Well this is what African Americans deal with on a daily basis, especially those of which are in higher power (politics, or corporate). I think if we elect Obama, it will break down a lot of barriers and open the doors for alot of us.
I dont have an answer as to why African Americans, including Bi-racial people (Im half black half spanish) are sterotyped as ghetto, and when we speak eduated we are quote on quote acting white. I just hope we see a change one day

I really don’t know what to think about this. People don’t realize that if elected president, Obama will be president of AMERICA, not just BLACK AMERICA.
Nick on June 26, 2008 at 9:34 am #
This is purely a sad excuse for Mr. Nader to get into the spotlight.
Lisa on June 26, 2008 at 10:40 am #
I don’t disagree with him. What he’s saying is true. Obama HAS distanced himself from Black people, or to be more accurate, lower class people in that regard. (Not all people who live in those conditions are Black…) Unfortunately he has to in order to be elected by everyone. You can’t be too liberal and still get elected in this country.
As far as “talking white” goes, that statement was a bit out of place.
TiaMia on June 26, 2008 at 10:42 am #
Come on B, I know you know the “talk white” theory that we’ve all had to deal with at somepoint or another. Every black person know about how one “talks white”. I agree with A.Moss. I hope one day we can stop sterotyping ourselves, so that the other side can’t come in and take what we do to hate on our on race to hate on us. You know the whole “talk white” thing came from within our very own, now it’s translating to other cultures to bring us down? Madness.

I agree with all of your statements but NurseFab is correct. Obama will be president of America period. He cannot make his whole term be about his race even though it will be a major factor. As far as Nader is concerned KR is on point.

“Talking white”… SMH. Come on now! And Barack was black when he was running for the nomination. Now that he has it, he’s all of a sudden half black. These people make me sick. I bet if he does something wrong he’ll go back to being black. SMH on it all!
whitneysfan2002 on June 26, 2008 at 11:19 am #
Have you never heard someone tell a Black person your talking white?
mrsFAB on June 26, 2008 at 11:48 am #
Why is it that speaking standard English is “talking white?”
me on June 26, 2008 at 12:45 pm #
he makes a point….
in this case, when he says talk white he means saying what they want to hear instead of harping on issues mainly afffecting out community becuase it will scare them.
not as far as his accent it’s his content. people get off the racial horse and realize that just because you criticize him doesn’t mean your attacking his race geeesh
me on June 26, 2008 at 12:46 pm #
in the context that the ‘talk white’ phrase was used it’s clear he means as far as on the issues. he’s talking on white issues not those that affect black america
TheTruth on June 26, 2008 at 6:09 pm #
omg. Talking “white” does not mean using correct English. There are plenty of celebrities for example that use proper English and people do not say they are talking “white”. I use correct English and no one says I talk “white”. It is actually the tone for example that is used - not agreement in subject and verb. goodness.

Seeing as though all he’s known for by most people is being the man who helped Bush fix the 2000 election (and other elections in the past), why does what he has to say matter to anyone? He’s not one the should be or is taken seriously in the world of politics. To me, he just sounds like a bitter old man.
