Usher Didn’t Give His Mother The Pink Slip!

June 11, 2008

Usher covered the July issue of Vibe magazine and he puts the rumor of firing his mother to rest.

“I decided to not fire, not get rid of, but to give [my mother] the ultimate compliment — to retire her to be a full-time grandmother.

“My mother and I decided to change her situation, together,” he adds. “There was a conversation. I didn’t write her a letter or pink slip her.”

“Am I so much of a bad guy because I decided to get married?” Usher says. “Am I so much of a bad guy [because once I got in the situation] I decided to stand for something, build a foundation and think about my future? As a man, you would respect me for not turning my back on it.”

I hope his relationship with his mother has gotten better, because his son needs a grandmother. It’s good to hear that Usher didn’t fire his mother - two adults sat down and discussed business. Do you think his mother resigned to spend more time with her grandchild, or do you think his mother quit because of his relationship with Tameka?

The whole ‘Mr Moral’ thing would come off so much better if he didn’t take someone else’s wife in the process…

I’m so over him right now. His mom “retired” way before the baby came. And why didn’t she go to the wedding? You ain’t foolin nobody Ursh, just stop.

i’m offended FOR his mother. she does not strike me as the type that glorifies “grandmotherhood” or any of that. and to say he “retired her” like she’s a damn horse is insulting!!!

He’s trying to get some of his respect back ( Too little, too late Usher) by saying he didn’t “fire” her, but why would his mother stop managing him? Either you fired her or she quit because she didn’t wanna deal with your woman. No one will EVER like Tameka and as long as she’s around, they won’t like you, either. You chose a woman with 3 kids and 3 baby daddies who left her husband for you and didn’t even have the decency to tell him, but instead let him find out after seeing pics of ya’ll on the internet/hearing about it on the radio over your mother. That’s low, wrong, and ridiculous. When ya’ll divorce, you’ll be running back to mama trying to get her to revive your failing career. Moral of the story? Blood is thicker than water–or it SHOULD BE–and Mama knows best!
