1. Drink This! “The Mint Julep”
It’s Derby weekend love muffins. What Derby would be complete without the quintessential Southern cocktail: the Mint Julep!
8 to 10 mint leaves plus 1 mint sprig for garnish
1 teaspoon sugar
2 1/2 ounces bourbon
Sparkling water
Crushed ice
Twist of lemon peel, for garnish
Confectioners’ sugar, for dusting
Muddle the mint leaves, sugar, 1 ounce of bourbon and a splash of sparkling water a chilled glass. Add crushed ice and stir. Add the remaining bourbon and another splash of sparkling water. Garnish with mint and lemon and dust with confectioners’ sugar.
2. Watch This! Iron Man
Robert Downey, Jr., Terrance Howard and Gwyneth Paltrow in an action/drama/fantasy movie means that the summer fun flicks are on the way. Although there’s been on and off buzz about this one, for the most part, people are looking forward to Marvel comic strip brought to the big screen.
3. Wear This! “The Fierce, Floppy Hat”
Like we already said, it’s Kentucky Derby weekend. Prepare yourself for Southern gents and ladies docked out in their spring best….complete with the mandatory head piece! Just in case you’re taking part in this weekend’s Derby festivities, and you’re looking for just the right hat to complement your attire, look no further. Ralph Lauren’s got a few that will truly turn heads!
4. Hear This! “Tyga ft. Travis McCoy—Coconut Juice”
Compton born Tyga, born Michael Stevenson, got a big break when he started a conversation with Travis McCoy of Gym Class Heroes at the popular sneaker store, Flight Club LA. First it was in-depth conversation, and next thing he knew, Tyga was on tour with Gym Class Heroes. Now he’s released his own single, “Coconut Juice”, from his debut album No Introduction. 5. Do This! “Cinco de Mayo”
There are two ways you can party this weekend—the South is holding down the Kentucky Derby, but here on the West coast, we’ve got Cinco de Mayo on the brain. Pull out those cold cervezas and surely get those margaritas going because it’s going to be nothing but fiesta time all weekend long!
