At The Bodega With Mrs. Beck!
May 2, 2008
Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeey love muffins! I am busy this week getting my husband ready for life on the international road so I can’t chit chat for too long. But as I am trying to get his toiletries together in the hope that he will moisturize and protect without my supervision (doubt it), I reminded myself again about the famous cocoa butter stick. A bit ago I let you know about my obsession with Queen Helene products and packaging. The Queen Helene Cocoa Butter Stick deserves so much more praise than a mere passing remark, but I’ll give the quick breakdown on why it’s the best.
1. It’s cheap! Cheaper even than Mr. Softee ice cream cone. Cheaper than a Big Mac! And it’s for beauty purposes. Come on! That’s insanity. It’s 99 cents! I’m dead serious. These days, you can’t get much for less than a dollar unless you’re in the dollar store. But this is a dollar at the regular corner store. The miraculous cocoa butter stick is a straight up dollar? Yes. That’s what I said.
2. It’s portable. You see, it’s not liquid so the airport people can’t take it away from you. You don’t even have to put it in its own plastic compartment because there is no leaking. It’s a solid hard stick of moisturization just for you. Don’t leave it in a hot car though. Trust me.
3. You can use it anywhere. Well, just about anywhere if you don’t mind people whispering about you. People whisper about me all day. Shit, sometimes they talk hella loud about me right in ear shot so I am over all of that. You can whisper about me all you want. Basically, you remove the cap and you push the stick up like a dreamy little orange push-pop. Then you can apply it all over. I like to apply it on my stomach and thighs. They say cocoa butter helps prevent cellulite and stretch marks if applied liberally and consistently. You do have to be crazy into it to make it matter. I especially like to apply it while I watch shows about models so that I can feel like I am taking precautionary measures while I absorb unnecessary calories (mochi balls) and inadvertant subliminally bad messages about my body. But you can do it while you wait in line at the DMV. Or while you wait when your husband drags you to the guitar store for five hours.
4. When you are sick, keep it by your bedside! It is so gross, but trust me it works. Take the stick and rub it all over your nostrils. If you’re blowing your nose repeatedly and you get that crusty, red, inflamed and crackling nose syndrome, you can avoid all that by putting the cocoa butter stick to your face. Your face will look greasy (read: greeeezy) but the next morning, you will have a normal nose and you might not even look sick. Obviously one stick per person per household.
5. It’s great for elbows and the webbings of toes too. It tickles when you rub it on your elbow. I might just be a freak though. Regardless, if you are an advocate for moisture and you want to eradicate the ash, the cocoa butter stick is for you.
6. Maybe it’s just me, but I think it smells delicious. I love opening a new stick and smelling it up.
So that’s about it. You need this stick for a dollar. Oh snap! I forgot to mention how cute the actual product itself is. You’ll pull it out of your bag and people will say, “What’s that?” and you’ll respond with an eye roll and go, “You don’t use this? O M G…” That’s also fun.
Just saying…

Yeeah!! Another entry from Melissa…(ok now I’m going to read it)…Melissa’s right about applying cocoa butter on the nose, but eff that I’m not sharing. That ‘one per household’ part can go–getcha own!
For me, cocoa butter is kind of dries out my skin so if I do buy it and use it–I’ll only use it on my lips or my nose when it’s dry.
I still enjoyed the post keep them coming
I LOVE MELISSA!!!
–mrs. beck’s number 1 fan
-bschotts one and only love muffin
BTW JE melissa stated ‘one per PERSON per household’….reading is fundamental! jk lolz
Melissa, you are soooo on point about the cocoa butter stick. And yes, YOU got me hooked on sesame seed oil!
Oops my mistake. I tend to skim when I read. Sorry.
I love the smell, too! And I use it on my lips a lot.
haaaa! now when i go to a drugstore, i don’t want just ANY cocoa butter stick… i want the 99 cents one! worth a try, if not… it’s only a dollar, right? i swear you’re my idol. i got the layering down to a science AND i finish it off with my sesame seed oil (for the record i was on to it since 2003… but it just stayed on my dresser to collect dust). =)
thank u mrs. beck!!!! looking forward to the next one!!!
Your blogs are on point! Hopefully you will have the remedy and make a post for how to have softer hands!
