LBS Feature: Steph Jones “Mr. Ordinary”

Mr. Ordinary aka The Mo City Alien aka Steph aka Steph Jones sat down with me on Thursday for an interview in “The (infamous) B.Scott Chair” and proved to be an amazing spirit, a splendiferously divine singer, and an all around good person! Steph Jones received the B.Scott seal of approval after our interview and Love muffins… I want you to get into this.

How did this all come about? I ran into Steph, walking beautiful, bronzed, bare chested and body built down Venice Beach and when he sang out “Its B.Sco ooo tt!” I was sure we’d be able to hang out and learn more about Steph Jones in front of the camera. I just cannot stress enough how moved I was to interview this beautiful man (inside and out) and learn that he really does have a genuine and kind heart, is secure and confident in his sexuality and can sing his a$$ off as well.

Who is Steph Jones? He is a model, singer and songwriter currently signed to Def Jam, through Ludacris’ Disturbing tha Peace Records. Jones is known for featuring on the single “Celebrity Chick,” along with Ludacris, Chingy, and Small World. He has appeared in a few music videos, such as Destiny’s Child’s “Jumpin’ Jumpin’” and Faith Evans’ “I Love You.” He was the face of Enyce Clothing in 2002 and 2003. His debut album is entitled “Mr. Ordinary.”

B. Scott: So – of course I get all of the singers that come by, and all of those that will come by in the future as well, to sing a little bit of something – my love muffins are very critical – they know whats real and they know whats not – so what song are you going to sing for them? What song do you think can capture who you are in your essence?

Steph: I think its very important that I sing “Mr. Ordinary” – at the end of the day we are all ordinary when we decide to be ourselves we are our own ordinary so what I’m going to do is I’m bout to take the chair – (readjusts hat ) …make sure my naps is in place – Yeah its your boy Steph Jones and I’m going to sing Mr. Ordinary. It’s a song that’s very near and dear to my heart and what I say is at the end of the day just do you be yourself – be your own self that’s how your uniqueness is going to come out – so that’s why I’m choosing the song “Mr Ordinary.” B. Scott gon’ be himself – that’s why I respect him. Your boy Steph Jones gon’ be himself. (clears throat) “It’s B. Sco oooo ttt!”

B.Scott: – Lord Have Mercy!!!

Steph: - Kelly Clarkson Eddie Murphy… So that’s Mr. Ordinary… Be yourself… I’m in B. Scotts chair.

B.Scott: – He don’ took over love muffins See how they do me they come to my apartment and take over. I invite them here to my humble abode. See how they do me? They start singing n thangs – pushing me out the way. I’m in the back tryng get my head in the best way I can. But it was good. That was amazing. That was really amazing. For those of you that didn’t know.., now you know. Like… Steph Jones is like Super Duper talented, splendiferous, down to earth…

Steph: What does that mean?

B. Scott: Splendiferous? It means fabulous It means divine – a lot of times I say divinely splendiferous so that means that you are the business.

Steph: Cool – cool – well you heard it from B. Scott – for all them fans out there – seal of approval. B. Scott just said it “Steph Jones” – it didn’t come out my mouth – what did come out my mouth was “I need you to put me on your top 8”

B. Scott: “Top 8!”

Steph: Put him on your top 8 – because …

B.Scott: You need to go to lovebscott.com – same thing with youtube – just type in lovebscott all my stuff comes up - you’ll find it – same thing with Steph Jones. Type in Steph Jones in google – you’ll find his myspace.

Steph: That’s exactly what’s gon’ happen. I’m gon’ tell you how its gon’ work. The more people you tell – the more people that’s gon’ be exposed to all this realness. Its a lot of people running around being something that they’re not, and eventually you get sniffed out. Listen to what I’m telling you. You’ll eventually get sniffed out.

B. Scott: You better say it.

Steph: You need to listen to what I’m telling you. You’ll eventually get sniffed out. So look - if you just take the time to be yourself, and if people want to hate on your being yourself that’s something that they’re dealing with

B. Scott: (eballers, eballers!)

Steph: with their own personal self. And if they want to hate on you for being yourself then they have issues that they have to deal with. People out there yall all know that I always say – let the haters come, you can’t ever escape it. Jesus is said to be perfect. They hated on him every day. So no matter what I do bad or good people gon’ always hate – so if you do you.

B.Scott: – (clapping) We’re going to church!!!

Steph: Listen to what I’m saying - I’m speaking that knowledge. If you just do you then people are going to feel what youre saying and if they don’t then let them wake up and go to sleep like that.

B. Scott: Right! The haters are gonna hate. But we’re going to continue to do us. And you did that – that was amazing.

Steph: Thank you for having me on the show!

B. Scott: Of course (giggles…)

Thanks for bringing him to my attention, B! After watching your interview with him, I immediately requested to be a friend on his Myspace page. I now have him in my top 4 on my Myspace page. I love the fact that he actually responds to e-mails sent to him because he has responded to both e-mails I’ve currently sent him. Again, thank you B for putting him on your site!!!

Here’s my opinion about your last video on youtube:
First of all, I’m ready for someone like you Bscott!
But the SOCIETY may not be! We all know that society is strict and for this reason We have to be very prepared for what they will say about us…

First of all I want to say I LOVE U B.SCOTT!!
Second, I want to thank you for putting that beautiful man on your show!I kind of heard of him last year but after your interview I’ve become a supporter of his music.He has an awesome personality and he isn’t afraid to do him, which is always fabulous. Loved it, love you, & keep doing your thang honey!

I think his song ‘Mr. Ordinary’ was featured in one of the ‘DL Chronicles’ episodes. I had no idea who sang the song at the time. Wow! B.Scott, you get major props for having a hottie like that cum thru and chill with u. U even got him to take his shirt off. I wonder how ‘Luda feels about that?!? LOL…

*MELTS* I have watched this video quite a few times. I just find him so REAL and ENGAGING. His energy is similar to yours on video. Very captivating…not to mention this boy is fione! B. Scott…uh uh uh…you are the business and have definitely mastered the art of restraint because if he would have been taking shirts off and all of those shenanigans I would have definitely jumped him right there! LAWD! I am jealous right now…
