Makeup 101: How To Enhance Eye Color!

One of the most asked questions regarding eye makeup is how to enhance your own natural eye color. How do you make brown eyes smolder, or make those blue eyes pop? It’s simple Love Muffins…well complementary actually! I’m about to break it down nice and easy for you. The easiest way to enhance your natural eye color is with the an eye liner that complements your eye color.

Blue eyes are enhanced when lined with golden brown shades, since orange/gold complements blue. Try M.A.C. Eye Khol in Teddy.

Green eyes are enhanced by cranberry or coppery shades, since red complements green. Try Sue Devitt Eye Intensifier Pencil in Kanpur.

Brown eyes’ golden tones are enhanced by lining with blue shades, since blue complements any golden/orange tone. Try L’Oreal Wear Infinite Soft Powder Eye Liner in Deep Sapphire.

Remember Love Muffins, never line your eyes with a color that is stronger in tone than your own eyes, expecting them to be enhanced. Placing a bolder green shade next to green eyes only makes the colors fight for title of “Who’s Greener”. You may notice your eyes look green (because they already were), but you’ve actually weakened your own eyes color by making them compete with a richer shade.

After you’ve lined your eyes, use a q-tip or finger and smudge the line into a softly diffused finish. Add few coats of black mascara. Bat those lashes, and wait for the complements to come your way.

    I LOVE THIS POST!!!

OK.. I have brown eyes… blue eye liner does not complement every outfit. I usually go with black eyeliner on a daily basis.

    Thoughts anyone?

I’d love to see pics like the one above with each eye color!

Normally eye liner isn’t chosen to complement an outfit unless you were going for a “fashion forward” type of look where it’s matchy matchy (which is normally a no no). A little blue eyeliner on anyone (especially navy) will make you look like you’ve gotten 12 hours of sleep. But if you are still concerned with your makeup complementing your outfit, you should probably focus a complementing lip color, rather than the eye liner.

I use lagoon (deep/clear) blue and turquoise eyeliner to make my brown/black eyes “pop”. I don’t see purple having the effect everyone’s raving about though it is a nice color. Pink works better than purple for me. My skin is deep olive. Gold is a nice neutral but a bit much for daywear unless teamed with browns to tone it down a bit. Black eyeliner makes my eyes look larger and not smaller as the myth goes.

Why is the model wearing a brown eyeshadow if she has green eyes? I thought the articl stated that cranberry or coppery shaded should be worn with green eyes.
