Chelsea Handler A Racist Or Just A Comedian?

After watching a video of the E! talk show host outside of LA’s Koi on Saturday; I’m not too sure how I feel about Chelsea Handler. She was approached by two cameramen, one of whom was Chinese, the other (TMZ’s guy) was African-American. During the video clip Chelsea jokingly remarked “crazy that you guys all travel together, Asians and Blacks. That’s amazing.” And they can vote now, too! Then after a failed joke about Dog the Bounty Hunter, shockingly a question about Britney Spears turned into Chelsea blurting out that the Chinese photographer was from “Vietcong-nam.” When it was brought to her attention that he was, in fact, Chinese, Chelsea just said, “Whatever.”

Um, I think she was trying to be funny but she went to far w/the vietnamcong comment. I’ve seen her show, I’ve seen her say things that aren’t appropriate, no complaints from anyone then but I think it’s going to be an issue b/c race is such a sensitive issue in this country.

Funny, though, let some folks tell it we’re all holding hands and singing together.

But reality is you have to watch what you say, especially if your white.

racism is such a “sensitive issue” because racism is WIDESPREAD and INSTITUTIONAL…always has been and always will be… the only positive change only ever comes from minorities FIGHTING and standing up to racism…look up Chelsea handler racist” in Google and u will see that she has history of racist “jokes”, did same thing on Tonight Show…i am writing strong email to the proper companies that enable her…oh by the way, her wikipedia page says she is dating the boss of E! channel, thats why she feels she is safe…let’s show her that she isn’t…peace

What’s so interesting about comments like that is that they are not unique.She was merely saying what a lot people think from a naturally supremacist standpoint. I don’t think that she was trying to be malicious, that’s just the way she thinks. Like Trugh says, it’s so widespread that it comes naturally to a lot of people to the point where they don’t know that it’s wrong.

THE_TRUTH thank you for the info about her dating the E!boss. I mean I keep wondering why she has a show she is NOT not not funny. She is soo not funny not even she laughs at her “jokes”. She just makes comments that go too far. I have been wondering whose dick she has been sucking since she came onto the hollywood scene.

I love Chelsea. She is a few funny commedian. But, yes sometimes they do ‘try’ too hard and all jokes dont come across as they were probably intended…

I had to gasp for air when I read this B! YES I have been saying this to myself to weeks now when surfing television channels and coming across her show…she says alot of things that would make one beleive that she’s a racist and I try to watch it but everytime she turns me off! I beleive she may be racist.

This CHICK isn’t even that funny to me anyways, borderline CORNEY AS HELL. When you’re NOT that FUNNY in the first place, you should really watch what you say because there is always a 50/50 chance that your joke won’t roll over….As far as the whole “race” thing, i’m over it…that is so 1955. I’ve seen her show (which is CORNY too by the way), so I think it was her typically trying to be funny yet JOKE didn’t roll over self….oh well, I can’t stand her HAIR by the way, there is always something OFF about it.

Sometimes people excuse the things that Chelsea does BECAUSE shes a comedian..and thats “just her way.” Being funny is one thing, but making stereotypical/racist remarks is something totally different and off the cuff.

I love her and her little Mexican sidekick, if you watch her show you know it’s just her humor, she has guest of all races / orientation. It’s fun to laugh at ,and completely differnt than Michael Richards or Dog the Bounty Hunter.

If it were Chris Rock or Dave Chapelle that made those comments, I highly doubt that this would even be a thread. She’s a comedian, as are they, and that’s what they do. I find that most people have a tolerance for offensive jokes until it hits home. If you’re going to call her out on being “racist”, may as well call out the rest of the comics too; or the entertainment industry period. Lighten up, its just humor! Or tune them out.

I admire Chelsea Handler. I watch her show every night and i laugh at all the “racist” jokes she say you know why because I’m not stupid enough to think its real. and like Linda said if you don’t like her jokes then don’t watch her its as simple as that. Shes only has the balls to say whats on peoples mind. More power to chelsea.

Yeah, relax kids. I love how people get so worked over what comedians, or entertainers in general say and think. I am a very big Chelsea fan–have watched several episodes of her show, bought and read her book, “Are You There Vodka, It’s Me, Chelsea,” and it was pretty good. I also happen to be Black–oh I’m sorry–African-American. I hope I just didn’t offend myself. Lighten up kids. Focus on doing research for the upcoming election.
