The View’s Revolving Door!

May 31, 2007

Considering the recent departure of the ever-controversial Rosie O’Donnell, I felt it was as good a time as any to examine the many hosts that have a come and gone through The View since it began ten years ago. They’ve had more ladies sit on that couch than Hugh Hefner. Barbara Walter’s famous foursome has done nothing to dispel the myth that women are catty and can’t work together. Here’s the rundown…

Debbie Matenopoulos:

debbiem.jpg In 1997 after a chance meeting with Barbara Walters she became a co-host on Walters’s new talk show The View. In 1999 she was abruptly fired from the show. This chick didn’t stay down for long. She dusted her self off and now you can see her as co-host of The Daily 10 weekdays on E!. She even did a guest-hosted on The View earlier this year to bury the hatchet. I guess there is life after getting fired by the Big B.

Lisa Ling:
lisal.jpg Debbie’s replacement was Lisa Ling. But she didn’t last long either. Unlike Debbie she wasn’t fired but left the show towards the end of 2002 to go back to international reporting. Now she host National Geographic Explorer and covers international humane stories for several programs including Oprah Winfrey. When it comes to the Big O versus the Big B, I think we all know who wins that one.

Meredith Vierra:
meredithv.jpgWhen Katie Couric left The Today Show, NBC quickly came calling for Meredith. She had her start in hard-core journalism but had been living it up on The View for 9 long years. She left last year and made her way for the peacock network with much success. If you don’t believe she’s happy with the move, just watch her face light up when she reports on The View’s shenanigans each morning. Clearly Meredith has moved on! Katie who???

Star Jones:
starj.jpg Who could forget Star Jones? She had been with the show since its inception but once she started losing weight, she went crazy. Next thing you know she was dating a gay guy and getting underhanded deals for her wedding. Her approval ratings went down and she was quickly booted. Not long after Meredith Viera’s announcement, Star Jones also let America know she would be leaving The View, however, she did conveniently forget to mention that she was fired! Now it’s all good and the slimmed-down Star will return to her roots at Court TV as the new Executive Editor of their daytime programming and will host a daily daytime live talk show based on the law and pop culture.

Chin up Rosie—Life after The View ain’t so bad. Leaving them crazy bitches was probably the best thing you ever did!
